Trillian is a messaging application created by Cerulean Studios with an amazing potential to connect to -
• Several instant messaging services such as AIM, ICQ, Windows live Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, Skype,
• social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and
• Emails clients such as Yahoo mail, Hotmail, Gmail etc.

It provides its users the ability to connect to several messaging service without actually running the client. It provides a unique feature of color coding scheme for different IM services for example Blue for Windows Liver Messenger, Red for Yahoo Messenger, Green for ICQ, and Yellow for AIM etc.

An interesting fact about Trillian is its ability to provide the history of activities available in text files or XML log files. Video conferencing in Trillian is accompanied with necessary features like recording, review, pause, and rewind or fast forwarding the sessions.
Trillian can be downloaded on a number of platforms such as Windows, Mac, and iPhone.

Trillian was first introduced as a freeware IRC client in July 2000 followed by Trillian Pro published in September 2002 for first commercial use. Trillian in its earliest form exhibited a simple Connection Manager and skinned windows. November 2009 noticed a significant change in Version 0.6 of Trillian with a capability to connect to AOL Instant Messenger, ICQ and MSN messenger simultaneously in one window. Maintaining a contact list was one of techniques available in Trillian unlike in other similar products. Version 0.70 of Trillian released in December 2001 demonstrated features such as-
• file transfer in all IM services,
• Skin language changes.
Subsequent minor releases in Version 0.7x included the provision of group chat with SecureIM. The commercial use of Trillian extended features such as
• SMS and mobile messaging,
• Yahoo Messenger webcam support,
• Pop up emails.
• It included weather and stock quotes as well which could be sent to buddy lists.

Trillian Pro was a big success among corporate firms providing them a medium of secured communication with suppliers and customers. It is worth noting, the Trillian firm sustained largely on donations from its user base.
• Trillian released several patches to combat the blockage issues enforced by Yahoo and MSN messenger in the year 2003 and 2004.
• Trillian 3 added features such as new video and audio chat through AIM, MSN Messenger, and Yahoo messenger and
• Integrated with Wikipedia online service.
• Universal Plug and Play multiple identity support were added in the last release of Trillian Version 3.

Trillian was included in the Google pack as a safe collection of useful software from Google in the January 2006. The latest version of Trillian, version 4 was released in November 2009 and is known as Trillian Astra with several cosmetic enhancements like new login screen at a better speed.
